on the website of the non-profit organisation Society for History and Archaeology in Ghent


This association was founded in 1893 to devote itself to  Today, the non-profit organisation MGOG has a connecting function between the academic world, the Ghent heritage sector and the general public. It organises activities and publishes a magazine and books on the (art) historical, archaeological and archaeological aspects of Ghent's history.


The non-profit organisation is closely linked to cultural and academic institutions in Ghent that are concerned with the city's past, such as Ghent University, the City Archives, the STAM (Ghent City Museum) and the City Archaeology Department.


Furthermore, the non-profit organisation is an active member of the East Flemish Association of History Circles and undertakes joint initiatives with its Bruges sister association, the Society for History
